A few minutes in Anchorage
So we took the ferry from Valdez to Whittier which was really nice. Got to see the glaciers and dodge the icebergs on our trip up. Drove up to Seward and spent our first full day there on a cruise. The first ship we got on blew 1 of the 2 engines about 2 hours out so we had to limp back and take a larger vessel. It was cool. Saw orcas and humpbacks as well as some porpises that played in our wake. Got really close to an icefield and got to see the glacier calve- which is when a chunk of the ice falls off into the water to form a berg. Got some video on the camera of that. I will hopefully be able to stop by Best Buy here to see Mitch and see if he can convert my flash card from my camera to CD ROM. Id love to get some of my 200 pictures i have posted online.
I took the group for a hike yesterday but halfway up this mountain, one of the women said she would have to turn back coz it was too steep for here (lotsa switchbacks, maybe 1000m elevation gain in 6k!) coz there was lots of grizzly activity in the area, I had to go with her. I let the group go on and walked her down, then I turned around and ran up the trail to meet the rest of the group. As I met them they were on their way down already, I ate my lunch and ran back down to meet them. This job sure willl keep me in shape! Maybe even moreso than construction (I can't slack off here, Co!)
I should have regular net access in Denali when I am there so I hope to upodate you with pictures then.
Cheers
